Roger Lord

Roger Lord

Roger was born in Warrington, Lancashire. He was educated in Warrington and Altrincham. He then joined the Police Force and served his 2 year probationary period in Kirkby! This was a culture shock and an eye opener. It was a very good place to work as a Police Officer as you dealt with everything from shoplifters to robberies, on a daily basis. He then moved to a specialist unit which dealt with serious offences. He was transferred into Merseyside Police and then moved to Norfolk. He retired in 1997. Roger has been a Tour Manager since 2001. During this time he has visited 39 countries. He has also done 97 rail tours in these countries. Roger has been working for Noble Caledonia for 6 years. During this time he has worked in Europe on river cruises. He has expert knowledge of other regions of the world that he has acquired with other companies. His particular expertise is in Australia and New Zealand. He has visited Australia on 10 occasions and New Zealand on 17 occasions. New Zealand is a wonderful place to visit. It is a long way to travel but it is worth it. It has everything anyone could need. Lovely, friendly people. Amazing scenery. Very good, tasty food. It is a safe place and reminiscent of the UK between the First & Second World War. (He's not able to vouch for this personally, but he's assured by people who were around at this time that this is the case!). There is also a distinct lack of people. North Island is approximately the size of Scotland, in square miles, and has a population of 3 million, half of which live in Auckland. South Island is approximately the size of England and Wales, in square miles, and has a population of approximately 1.5 million. There are lots of sheep, mainly on South Island. At the last count there were in excess of 40,000,000! The highlight, is a night spent on Milford Sound. This is in the Fiordland area of South Island. The scenery, from Te Anau to Milford Sound, is spectacular. North Island is completely different but nevertheless a fascinating place. There is a lot more volcanic activity here. New Zealand such definitely be on everyone's
